In the centrepiece of the icon St.John the Baptist is depicted as the Angel of the desert. His figure is placed against the background of two scenes of his life: Nativity and Beheading. In his left hand he holds an opened scroll, his right arm is raised in a gesture of blessing. In front of him lies his cut off head. Above him in the clouds is the Lord of Sabaoth. -
