Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, with scenes from his life

Origin: from the church of John the Goldenmouth in the village of Saunino, Kargopolsky district, Archangelskaya region (1665 г.)

Material: Wood, levkas, tempera

Dimensions:  height 71,5 cm, width 61 cm

The centerpiece shows blessing saint Nicholas attired as a bishop with the closed Gospel book in his left hand. In the upper corners of the centerpiece in the quadrants are half-figures of Christ with the Gospel book and the Mother of God with the omophorion in Her hands. Border scenes: 1. Nativity of saint Nicholas; 2. Baptism; 3. St. Nicholas brought to school; 4. St. Nicholas consecrated deacon; 5. St. Nicholas consecrated priest; 6. St. Nicholas being consecrated bishop; 7. Appearance before eparch Eulavius in his dream; 8. Appearance before tsar Constantine in his sleep; 9. Saving priest Christopher from execution; 10. Miracle of the sailors; 11. Return of Basil, son of Agrikos, to his parents; 12. Miracle of the cuman; 13. Miracle of the three friends; 14. Saving Demetrius from drowning; 15. Miracle of the carpet. Saint Nicholas buys the carpet from the elder; 16. Saving Demetrius from drowning; 17. Miracle of the carpet. Nicholas returns the carpet to the wife of the elder; 18. Miracle of the three girls; 19. Transfer of relics of saint Nicholas; 20. Entombment of saint Nicholas.
