Martyrs Florus and Laurus, with scenes from their lives

Date: XVII century. Late XVIIth – early XVIIIth century

Iconographic school/art center:  Kholmogory

Origin: was removed from the Troitskaya church (1727-1729) in the village of Nyonoks, Archangelskaya region

Material: Wood, cut-back central portion, canvas, levkas, tempera

Dimensions:  height 70,5 cm, width 61,5 cm

In the centerpiece are represented saint martyrs Florus and Laurus full-length, in prayer to the image of the Holy Trinity.
Border scenes:
1. Proclus orders Florus and Laurus to bear the Christ’s sufferings;
2. Florus and Laurus come to Illyricum;
3. Hegemon Licion sends Florus and Laurus to Licinius, son of tsarina Elpidia;
4. Licinius orders Florus and Laurus to build the pagan temple;
5. Florus and Laurus give the money to those in need;
6. Night prayer of Florus and Laurus;
7. Florus and Laurus are building the church;
8. Florus and Laurus finish building the church;
9. Florus and Laurus equip the church;  
10. Florus and Laurus heal saint Anastasius;
11. Hegemon Licon throws Florus and Laurus into the den;
12.Transfer of the bodies of Florus and Laurus into Constantinople
