Iconography: Great Martyr Demetreus of Thessaloniki Killing Tsar Kaloyan
Date: XV century. Late 15th – beginning of the 16th century
Origin: From the Novoprechistenskaya church in the village Vakhonkino, Cherepovetsky district, Novgorodskaya province (now Kaduysky district of the Vologda region).
Material: Wood, tempera
Dimensions: height 94 cm, width 57 cm
Guided by the angel Demetrius of Thessaloniki on horseback slays pagan tsar Kalojan sitting on a white horse with a spear. In the upper right corner of the centerpiece – God’s Arm. In the centre of the upper part of the icon is shown the depiction of the Old Testament Trinity.
Deposited in the museum in 1935.
