Iconography: Miracle of the Archangel Michael with Florus and Laurus
Date: XVII century. 1603
Icon-painter: Grigoryev Isaakiy
Origin: From the church commemorating the Nativity of Christ in the village of Bogorodskoye, Cherepovetsky district, Novgorodskaya region (now the territory of town Cherepovets, Vologodskaya region).
Material: Wood, tempera
Dimensions: height 181 cm, width 130,5 cm
Practically half the huge board is covered with the figures of archangel Michael and saints Florus and Laurus standing on the rocks. The wings of the archangel are lifted upwards. At the feet of each rock is a rider sitting on a horse of different color – the gray, the white and the black. The iconographer mentions the names of the riders – Eliseth, Seth and Egliseth instead of the traditional Speusipp, Eulesipp and Meuleusipp. Behind Michael and the saints can be seen the town wall with the arched windows and towers. In the lower part of the composition are depicted the horses at the watering.
Was deposited in 1935.
