Annunciation

Iconography:  Annunciation of the Most Holy Virgin

Date: XVI century. Middle - third quarter of the 16th c.

Origin: From the Pokrov monastery in Suzdal.

Material: Wood, levkas, tempera

Dimensions:  height 51,5 cm, width 39 cm

Our Lady shown seated on the throne with the semi-circular back frightenedly turns to archangel Michael making wide step towards Her. Between the archangel and Our Lady is represented the spanning maid. In the lower part is depicted the spring looking like a fountain. Four swans come close to it (one of the swans is black, it is shown to the left).
