The apostle is represented full-length, in a three-quarter turn, his hands raised in prayer. He is praying to Christ Whose half-figure is shown in the upper right corner of the centerpiece in the quadrant. To the right of St. John is depicted St. Prochorus in the cavern sitting on the stone and writing down the Gospel text to the apostle’s dictation. The icon has twenty border-scenes illustrating the Christian testimony of the apostle in Ephesus and on the island of Patmos.

10. Those who stoned St. John fall dead. (?)
11. Those who escaped death fall down at St. John’s feet begging him to resurrect the dead. (?)
12. Votaries of Apollo (inscription – «иереи») fall down at the feet of the famous magician of Patmos, hermit Cinope, asking him for help against St. John.
13. St. John drives out the demon sent by Cinope.
14. Death of Cinope in the depths of the sea.
15. Beating of St. John after the death of Cinope. (?)
16. Testimony of St. John at the house of Myron.
17. Meeting of St. John and young men destined to be sacrificed to the demon wolf.
18. St. John drives the demon wolf out from the island of Patmos.
19. St. John rescues the twelve young men who were destined to be sacrificed to the demon wolf.
20. Farewell to St. Prochorus and burial of St. John the Evangelist.
