Origin: From the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Murom.

Dimensions:  height 179 cm, width 142 cm

The Mother of God is portrayed full-length with loose hair, wearing rich clothes (chiton and ornamented mantle) and a crown. She is holding the half-naked Infant Christ who stands on His mother’s right hand embracing her by the neck. The Child holds with His hand the Catholic beads consisting of fifteen beads, each corresponding to fifteen prayers of the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Around the Mother of God, between the rays of a star, the center of which is her figure, are 15 scenes from the life of the Holy Virgin and Christ, symbolically associated with the Rosary prayers cycle. Kneeling before the Holy Virgin’s feet are Murom’s saints – the blessed Constantine, Michael and Fedor, prince Peter and princes Fevronia and the righteous Juliania Lazarevskaya.
