• Holy Virgin of Joy of All Who Sorrow

    The icon belongs to the group of so-called icons Tenderness and the visiting of all those in trouble. The Holy Virgin, is shown standing on the crescent holding a rod, with the crown of the Heavenly Queen atop her head. Her figure is surrounded by floating clouds and cherubs hovering in golden shining. The upper part of the icons depicts the figures of the New Testament Trinity, the Sabaoth, Jesus Christ and the pigeon. In the lower part of the icon are the angels doing good to the afflicted for the sake of the Holy Virgin.

    The figure of the Mother of God is shown full-length, standing on a cloud. Her figure, with heads spread apart, is enclosed in a pink oval nimbus. With her right hand she holds the royal rod, and with her left three flowers of blue, red and white colors each. Above the Mother of God stands the half-figure of Christ Pantocrator. The Mother of God is surrounded by six groups of suffering people being helped by angels. Due to the lack of inscriptions, in the crowd of suffering people one can identify only two groups – the naked being covered with a mantle by an angel (left, in the middle), and the crippled resting on canes (right in the bottom). Against a background are large red, blue and white flowers. On the left border is the figure of St. Dimitri Rostovsky.
