Four scenes of Nativity

The icon represents four scenes: the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Nativity of Jesus Christ and the Nativity of St.Nicholas.

John the Baptist, the Angel of the desert with scenes from his life

In the centrepiece of the icon St.John the Baptist is depicted as the Angel of the desert. His figure is placed against the background of two scenes of his life: Nativity and Beheading. In his left hand he holds an opened scroll, his right arm is raised in a gesture of blessing. In front of him lies his cut off head. Above him in the clouds is the Lord of Sabaoth.

Nativity of John the Forerunner

In the upper part is depicted John the Forerunner – Angel of te desert with the unfolded scroll in his hands.
